What is available from Sony Pictures Film Clips?

Sony Pictures Film Clips licenses clips, stills, posters, dialogue, and thematic elements from the films of Columbia Pictures, TriStar Pictures, Sony Pictures Animation, Screen Gems, Stage 6 Films, and Revolution Studios.

How do I license Sony Pictures Classics films?

I want to show a Sony Pictures Entertainment film to my group or organization. Does Sony Pictures Film Clips handle these rights?

All requests for repertory or non-theatrical screenings of SPE films - including screenings of films to religious organizations, school groups, and corporate events - are handled by Katie Fry of Sony Pictures Entertainment (see below).

How do I find out if rights are available for a remake or adaptation of, or a sequel to, an SPE film?

Please direct all requests for re-issuance of rights to Gayle McDonald of Sony Pictures Entertainment (see below).

Do I have to clear the actors in a film clip or still?

Probably. Depending on when the film was released and the proposed use of the material, actors may have to be contacted for a written release for the use of their likeness and for possible payment of re-use fees. To do this, you might try contacting the Screen Actors Guild for information (see contact information below). You may also want to consider contacting a professional clearance service.

How do I handle stunt performers?

You should attempt to identify each stunt performer featured in the clip or still that you want to use. If you are unable to identify a particular stunt performer, you might try contacting the stunt coordinator for the film, Stunt coordinators can often be located through the Screen Actors Guild (see below) or via the Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com). SAG will assist you with obtaining payment information for the featured stunt performer and advise you on the appropriate SAG scale payment.

Is the music included in the Film Clip License?

No. To license music from a clip, please contact Jaime Cyr of Sony Pictures Entertainment's Music Catalog Development Division (see below).

Are there other guilds I need to contact to clear a clip and/or still?

In some cases, there may be additional clearances required from the Writers Guild of America and/or the Directors Guild of America (see below).

Can I make changes to the clip or still?

Alterations or modifications of the content of film clips or stills are not permitted without the express written consent of Sony Pictures Entertainment.

What will it cost to license a clip or still from Sony Pictures Film Clips?

Licensing costs vary depending on the title requested, as well as the media, term, and territory rights required for your project. To obtain a quote, please select the CONTACT US tab above. What is included in the license?

When you license a film clip, still image, audio clip, screenplay excerpt, thematic element or poster, SPE will grant rights for the use of this material in the media, territory and term required. The license does not include clearances for talent, locations, third-party copyrighted material, nor guild payments or the lab cost to create tapes, DVDs, stills, or other elements.

Can I use a Film Clip and/or Still on my website?

We will consider requests for website use on a case-by-case basis.

How long will it take to process my request?

You will receive a response within two business days -- typically sooner.
